| Graduation
Day – April 30, 2004
Every graduation ceremony
at NTS is quite the affair – the end of student life and
the beginning of a professional career in the performing arts.
This year, alumni were present at the ceremony held at the Ludger-Duvernay
Theatre of the Monument-National. This was a first Association
des Anciens/Alumni Association initiative. Alan
Bleviss (Acting
1966) and Pascale Dénommée (Interprétation
2002) addressed the gathering as presidents of the AlumnA and ADA
respectively and alumni representing the different programs taught
at the School stepped onto that still familiar stage and welcomed
the graduates into the profession. On the English side, they were:
Diana Fajrajsl and Raoul
Bhaneja (Acting, 1981 and 1996 respectively),
Nick Carpenter (Playwriting, 1998), Spike Lyne (Technical Production
1986) and Mérédith Caron for the bilingual Set and
Costume Design program, of which she is a 1977 graduate. This just
may be the start of a new tradition!

The Lieutenant Governor of
Québec Award
During
this year's Graduation Ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor of Québec
Award was accorded to French Acting graduate Hubert
Proulx. This
award is given in recognition of academic achievement; it also
underscores the personal, social and communal undertakings of the
chosen candidate. Throughout the duration of his four-year training
period, this young actor was a motivator and a bridge between the
two linguistic communities at the School. A dedicated actor, deeply
committed to his craft, Hubert Proulx will most definitely leave
an impression.

Leaving
the School
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye
to Eric Jean, the right hand man to
Denise Guilbault, Artistic Director of the French Sector. Éric has been appointed Artistic
Director of Montreal’s Théâtre Quat’Sous.
Maryse Warda, Associate Director General
will also be leaving to immerse herself in her writing and translations. Ann Lambert,
Playwriting Program Coordinator will be returning to Dawson College,
where
she will certainly be an inspiration to a great number of young
and talented artists in the making.
