1999 Open House
Destination: National Theatre School
Montreal, September 20, 1999 – Imagine a world where senses collide, interact and reach out to each other, leaving a different impression with each contact. A world where everyday elements join together, creating fabulous environments. The National Theatre School invites the public to explore this vast continent by embarking on a Journey into the senses, on Saturday, September 1999, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., as part of Journées de la culture.
Armed with a handy tour book containing information on the activities presented and the route to follow, visitors will discover how lighting, fabrics, sounds, words, and other materials can be used to create magical worlds. They will be able to watch demonstrations, observe classes, and view exhibitions that will show them how and with what creators work, as well as get a glimpse at the way theatre is taught at the NTS. Finally, they will also be able to attend various rehearsals, notably Chekhov’s The Three Sisters, with Jackie Maxwell directing the graduating class.
For a bit of fun and to try and push the limits of creation even further, the students will take part in a theatrical mini-marathon: starting with a predetermined set, a few memorized lines from a script and specific directions, they will have just less than two hours to create a concept, rehearse and integrate the technical elements. Different teams will participate in this experience and will present the final results of their experimentations at noon and at the end of the afternoon.
