RITUALS – A voyage through the dramatic grottos of the National Theatre School of Canada and the Monument-National

Montreal, September 21, 2000 – On the occasion of the Journées de la culture, the National Theatre School of Canada and the Monument-National invite the public to discover the rituals of the theatre world on Saturday, September 30th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The students and staff of the NTS will guide visitors on a ritualistic passage through the building’s hallowed halls where they will take part in ceremonies where lights, sounds, words and actions are transformed from the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Visitors will be able to attend rehearsals and watch sound and lighting displays. Activities will include, among others, a round table discussion on "Training the Playwright: how... and why?", and throughout the day visitors will have the privilege to attend a preset (what happens behind the scenes of the theatre a few minutes before the doors open) in the André-Pagé Studio. Students in the Acting Program will also put together short improvisations based on rituals initiated by Scenography students.

A bus will shuttle visitors all day between the National Theatre School and the Monument-National where there will be an exhibition of costumes designed at the School. Visitors will also be able to tour a construction workshop where students will be creating the décor of this season’s first production, Suburban Motel.
