Open House 2002
Do it and learn
Open House Activities at the
National Theatre School of Canada
Montreal, September 16, 2002 – The National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) invites the Montreal public to play a leading role in this year’s Open House on Saturday, September 28th, 2002, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Do it and Learn is the theme of this yearly backstage glimpse into the workings of Canada’s foremost theatrical training institution. Visitors of both the School (5030 St-Denis) and its theatre, the Monument-National (1182 St-Laurent) will have a unique opportunity to become involved in a typical day at the NTS.
It all begins at the School’s entrance with the stunning interactive installation designed by graduating Scenography student Jasmine Catudal. Visitors will be invited to create costumes for several mannequins found on the School’s front lawn. Inside, students, teachers, staff and graduates will assist visitors with participating in the day’s events. Whether it is through improvising in an acting sketch along with NTS students, or composing some dialogue for a work in progress, visitors will have the opportunity to implicate themselves in every step along the way towards creation.
And that’s just the beginning. A number of other activities are being planned in both locations including practical demonstrations, guided tours, exhibitions and presentations. Special activities are also programmed for children.
Taking place for the sixth year during the province-wide Journées de la culture, the NTS’s Open House is the one day of the year where curious citizens and young hopefuls have the chance to experience a day in the life of an NTS student.
