Discover the power of transformation

This year’s theme is Come for a change. The School’s rehearsal halls and studios will be open to the public to observe or experience first-hand the power of light, sound, text, voice, make-up, costume, and décor in the delicate and detailed construction of a character. By demystifying the contribution of those who work often unnoticed behind the scenes, the public can follow the step-by-step transformations from the mundane into the "theatrical" by the students, artists and artisans of the National Theatre School (NTS).

Special guests

This year’s special guests include the Kala Bharati Foundation. Established in 1981, the Kala Bharati Foundation works to increase awareness and appreciation of Indian art forms among Canadians. For the occasion of the Open House the troupe will perform some traditional Indian dances, in particular the Bharati Natya, and will acquaint the public with the basics and moves of this art form.

These activities are but only an example of what will be happening at the NTS that day. Try on a renaissance dress or a Louis XIV styled wig, change the contours of your face, move in the projected lights of our young lighting designers, give a playwright a line and witness first-hand the hard work and dedication of NTS students. Check in on rehearsals and workshops, see what is taught and how it is done, and talk to NTS students and staff to find out all about the School and its programs. A full day of activities and surprises are planned, so you will not want to miss this rare opportunity.
