Michel and Suria Saint-Denis Pavilion
Once a juvenile courthouse, the School’s main home, the Michel and Suria Saint-Denis Pavilion (steps away from the Laurier metro station), today hums with creative energy. It sits on the border between Plateau Mont-Royal and Mile End, neighbourhoods with a brand of charm unique to Montreal.
The Pavilion houses rehearsal halls, classrooms (including specially converted
spaces for voice, dance, movement, set and costume design and writing),
the André-Pagé Studio (a flexible studio space with a
150-seat capacity), the Pauline
McGibbon Studio (80-seat capacity), a small costume shop, a sound
studio, a lighting laboratory, a projection room, a computer room, a school
supplies store, a cafeteria, and a common space equipped with refrigerators
and microwaves for the students.
This main building also houses The Bleviss Family Library, the largest and most comprehensive documentation centre for the theatre arts in Canada.
The NTS Library’s collection includes approximately 35,000 English and French plays in published or manuscript form. In addition, it has over 20,000 books on theatre and theatre-related subjects such as dance and movement, voice, lighting, theatre for children and teenagers, technical production, sound, and costumes. There are also books on subjects that inspire and influence theatre, such as art, architecture, history, mythology, and fashion. The collection includes numerous and diverse files on plays, directors, playwrights, theatre companies and many other theatre-related fields. Though primarily for the use of the School’s students and teachers, the Library also offers memberships to the general public for a reasonable annual fee.
