FUNDRAISING E-BULLETIN

::: PHILIPPE CASGRAIN FUND FOR VOICE AND DICTION

The Philippe Casgrain Fund for Voice and Diction was established as a legacy for a man who was both Governor and Mentor at the National Theatre School of Canada for almost 50 years.

Through donations from friends, family members and colleagues – and through a bequest from the estate of Philippe Casgrain – the fund has grown to $100,000. The income generated will serve to enrich the teaching and voice coaching for the French students of the NTS. This will be accomplished through the recruitment of specialists who will provide vocal technique and diction master classes as well as intensive workshops.

  ::: UPDATE ON FUNDRAISING AT THE NTS

The NTS has a new fundraiser on board – perhaps this is better worded as 'a recently returned' fundraiser – Catherine Rideout. With her colleague Francine Picard, Catherine Rideout is overseeing all NTS fundraising activities.

During the upcoming year, volunteers will gather to assist in our fundraising goal – to raise support for students, teachers, special projects, technology and the Cultural and Artistic Leadership Program.

Donations can be made through Canada Helps or by contacting the School directly. Staff in the Development Office at the NTS can be reached by phone or email.

::: A DONOR'S STORY

One of the many donors to the National Theatre School is also a staff member. Wolfgang Noethlichs is Head Librarian at the NTS, and Wolfgang is a familiar face for all of the students and alumni – students use the library for scripts, design books, videos and DVDs, or for access to computers and catalogues. Wolfgang is ever present and ever helpful.

For the past 6 years, he has personally contributed to student bursaries as well as to the library. The walls of his office are a testament to this, displaying some of the 'thank-you sketches' he has received from students, grateful for the support.

::: REPORT ON GIVING

The NTS has just published its Report On Giving, online and in print. This publication demonstrates the impact that a gift has on the School and on the talented artists training within.

And as the adage notes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so the Report on Giving is full of beautiful photos.

Please download it online or contact the Fundraising Department to have a copy mailed to your home or business.

::: INVESTING IN TALENT

It is very easy to support the National Theatre School, and every gift makes a difference. You can give by credit card through CanadaHelps or by contacting the Fundraising Department directly. You can send a cheque made payable to the National Theatre School: 5030 Saint Denis, Montreal H2J 2L8. You can provide small monthly gifts through your credit card, charged automatically at the end of each month, with a tax receipt issued annually.

  ::: EMERGING ARTISTS AND NEW WORKS

The NTS has a strong and vital "Cultural and Artistic Leadership Program" that provides seed funding for new works by emerging artists. A 'call for proposals' was just made and, as a result, a number of new works across Canada will receive funding through the CALP.

::: HONORING NTS DONORS

Alumni, faculty, friends, corporations and foundations are among the many donors that play a strategic role in the evolution of the School. Private donations sustain our work; they provide the much needed support for our artistic and pedagogical projects, student bursaries, the library and our own theatre complex, the Monument-National. Receiving such widespread assistance is a testament to the value placed on the quality of training provided by the NTS.

Highlights of our 3rd Valentine's Day celebration (on our photo, Tim Broadhead, President and CEO of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation) are presently online. Some of the liveliest moments of the evening have been placed in the MULTIMEDIA section of our website.
