NTS ALUMNI REVEALED ONLINE ON NOVEMBER 2
For 50 years now, the NTS has been providing an environment for
students to reveal themselves. As artists, of course, but also as people. These revelations occur during
classes, workshops or performances. To mark our 50th anniversary, some of our alumni will share a few of
these moments. They will describe their National Theatre School in their own words. On November 2,
6 out of 24 will be revealed on line at:
www.revealingtalent.com.
NTS thanks François Forget, Mario Mercier and the entire team at
orangetango,
the Montreal ad agency responsible for our 50th anniversary media campaign, for their audacity and creative spirit.

THE SCHOOL'S FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR RETURNS FOR A VISIT
James de B. Domville, the School's first Administrative Director
(from 1960 to 1963), paid us a visit on September 23, 2010. Mr. de B. Domville, who currently resides outside
of Canada, was welcomed by Simon Brault and a choral ensemble comprised of first- and second-year Acting
students, under the direction of Linda Morrison. Mr. de B. Domville, who was also director general of the
NTS from 1963 to 1968 and is now a Life Governor, helped conceive and set up the School in cooperation with
among others Jean Gascon, it's first director general, and Powys Thomas, the first director of the Acting
program. To listen to an interview – in French – taped in August 1960, a few months before the NTS's
November 2 inauguration, conducted by Judith Jasmin with Jean Gascon and James de B. Domville,

PHILIPPE CASGRAIN ROOM
In order to pay homage to one of its most important builders,
the School has named the voice-training classroom after Philippe Casgrain, a Life Governor and former
Chairman of the Board of Governors (1968-1971), who passed away in
February 2010.
The inauguration of what is now known as the Philippe Casgrain Room, took place at the end of August
in the presence of members of Mr. Casgrain's family and the NTS Board of Directors and Governors.
It seems natural to associate Mr. Casgrain, a charismatic orator and a brilliant lawyer with an
outstanding career, with voice training for the School's acting students. Marie Lavallée
(Interprétation, 1982 – seen in the photo alongside Dorothy Jackson, and NTS Board members
Alan Bleviss (Acting, 1966) and Joan M. Cleather, warmly pointed this out during the reception.
The Philippe Casgrain Fund for Voice and Diction was created shortly before his death. To make a
contribution, please contact Catherine Rideout, Director of Development, at
catherinerideout@ent-nts.ca.

THE MONUMENT-NATIONAL: NUMBER 1 ACCORDING TO LA PRESSE
At the end of September, the Montreal daily La Presse published
a list of the top performance venues in Montreal. The
Monument-National,
which is owned by the School, sits proudly at the top of the list. The Ludger-Duvernay, a proscenium
theatre with 804 seats, an orchestra pit and a moveable forestage, gets particularly high marks
for its decor and configuration.
Built at the end of the 19th century and completely restored in 1993, the Monument-National is
entering into the 21st century adorned with an ecological urban lighting installation by
Axel Morgenthaler.
A major cultural player located in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles, the
Monument-National can accommodate a wide range of artistic productions.
A must-see in Montreal!
