INDIANA JONES AND THE NTS CONNECTION
There's an NTS connection in this summer's Montreal blockbuster, Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology: The Exhibition, that opened on April 28 at the Montreal Science Centre. The exhibit's audio texts, which allow visitors to discover the secrets of archaeological destinations made famous by the Indiana Jones films, were written by none other than Brian Drader, Director of the Playwriting program and Jodi Essery, teacher, writer and assistant to the Artistic Director of the English Section.

LEAR, MOLORA AND THE RAMAYANA
Yael Farber, head of the Directing Program, has just returned from Washington, DC, where she was in residency at the University of Maryland, developing her adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear, with Bruce Myers (longtime collaborator in Peter Brook's International Centre for Theatre Research, Paris) playing the title role. This summer, Farber's Molora (which has toured the world) will have a month-long run in New York City. This month, her adaptation of the Ramayana, called RAM: the Abduction of Sita into the Darkness, will be published by Oberon Books (London). Farber will conduct a development workshop for RAM in New York City, in July.

2011 GRADUATING CLASS
All dressed up with so many places to go, the National Theatre School's 2011 graduating class stood together one last time on the stage of the Ludger-Duvernay Theatre on Sunday, May 1, for their graduation ceremony. There were tributes and moments of sheer exuberance as 49 English and French Section graduates from 8 of our 9 training programs received their diplomas, marking an end to their training and the beginnings of a professional career. They're ready and they're coming your way!

Peter Roberts, Director of the Production program, was celebrated by his graduating students (our photo) and CEO Simon Brault as he is retiring from his position at the end of this term. We wish him the very best.

Exceptionally this year, the Tullio Cedraschi Bursary for community engagement was awarded to the 2011 graduating Acting Class. When all 12 of them took to the stage to receive their prize from Mr. Cedraschi, former president and current member of the NTS Board of Governors, he gasped at their numbers and promptly doubled the ante. He did likewise for the French Section winner, Émilie Martel, French Production program graduate. Thank you Mr. Cedraschi for your astounding generosity.
SIMON BRAULT IN THE NEWS
A MONOGRAPH, A KEYNOTE ENGAGEMENT

Simon Brault's monograph launch
On June 16, 2011, at the Scène Financière Sun Life of Montreal's Monument-National, the Presses de l'Université du Québec and the Chaire de leadership Pierre-Péladeau will launch a monograph about the School's CEO, entitled Simon Brault, Prendre fait et cause pour la culture. It is a scholarly thesis on Simon Brault's personal and professional journey in the arts, his leadership qualities and the ideas he has championed in his capacity as CEO of the NTS, Vice Chair of the Canada Council and founder and president of Culture Montreal.

Simon invited by the MCFR
As a leader in the world of arts and culture, Simon is a highly sought-after speaker and keynoter. On May 25, 2011, he will be the guest of honour of the Montreal Council of Foreign Relations (MCFR) where he will talk about Montreal's Creative Artists Networks: a Factor of Prosperity and Reputation.
ESPACE GO AND THE FTA CELEBRATE THE SCHOOL'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY
To mark the School's 50th anniversary, Espace Go theatre, directed by Ginette Noiseux (Scénographie, 1980), is paying homage to the School's alumni, through words and images, during the theatre's annual fundraising evening, on June 9, 2011. Entitled L'École des femmes, this tribute, directed by Alice Ronfard, will highlight the talents of several actresses who trained at the School, as well as graduates of the Set and Costume Design, Production, Directing, and Playwriting programs.

The Festival TransAmériques will also tip its hat to the School, by organizing a reception in its honour on June 4, starting at 11:00 p.m., at the Agora Hydro-Québec, located in UQAM's Cœur des sciences. Speeches, a DJ, dancing and good times are on the bill.
ALUMNI NEWS
The following is a brief sampling of the news you can find in the ALUMNI NEWS section of our website. For more news on NTS alumni, their performances, projects, awards, etc., please click here.

Zadie's Shoes, first written by Adam Pettle (Playwriting, 1999) when still a student at the School, is presently running at the Factory Theatre until June 5, 2011. It is co-directed by Adam and his brother, Jordan Pettle (Acting, 1994).

Trent Pardy (Acting, 2004) performs in the 2011 Stratford Shakespeare Festival's production of The Merry Wives of Windsor, alongside James Blendick (Acting, 1966), Lucy Peacock (Acting, 1983), Steve Ross (Acting, 1991), and Michael Blake (Acting, 2001); directed by Frank Galati, from May 10 to October 14, 2011. He and Michael perform in Twelfth Night, directed by Des McAnuff and designed by Debra Hanson (Set and Costume Design, 1976), from June 26 to October 28, 2011. Ian Lake (Acting, 2006) appears in the production. Trent and Steve Ross will also play in Molière's The Misanthrope, directed by David Grindley, from July 31 to October 29, 2011.

The premise of the show is daring and unique: renowned playwrights have been asked to pen the first two pages of a new play and seal them in an envelope. Each night, the company opens one up, reads it, sets it down, and improvises the rest live in front of the audience! Judith's pages will be performed on May 24 and Hannah's on May 26.

Natasha Greenblatt (Acting, 2007 and our photo) stars in E. Nesbit's The Railway Children, produced by the Mirvish Group, at the Roundhouse Theatre, The show opened on May 3 and is running for 26 weeks.

Also participating in the production are current students Sophie Gee (Directing), Gal Minnes (Production) and Adrian Shepherd-Gawinski.

Celia McBride (Playwriting, 1995) will be at the Banff Playwrights Colony, May 1 to 20, 2011, working on her latest play, GITA: God in the Army. She will then perform in a workshop production of the play at the Uno Fest (Victoria), on May 27 and 28, 2011.
