THEATRE, THE OTHER SOCIAL NETWORK
Drop by the National Theatre School (NTS) for our 15th annual Open House and explore this year's theme: Theatre, The Other Social Network.

Facebook, YouTube, Twitter – Virtual communities are being created yet we still need human contact and theatre does that. It creates a physical social network where, gathered around performances, each individual contributes his or her perceptions, observations and expectations.
THE 2011 OPEN HOUSE TEAM
The Open House signature scenography is designed by Diana Uribe (Set and Costume Design, 2011) and the Production Manager of this event is Mallorie Casey (Production, 2011).

All activities are conceived by our students, teachers and program directors!
EN FRANÇAIS COMME EN ANGLAIS,
IT'S EASY TO CRITICIZE

NTS will be presenting a bilingual production – never before attempted in the history of the School – involving students from both the English and the French sections and co-directed by Chris Abraham (Directing, 1996) and Christian Lapointe (Mise en scène, 2005). A creative laboratory, freely adapted from the work of Jacob Wren, En français comme en anglais, it's easy to criticize will run from October 25 to 30 at the Monument-National. You are invited to contribute to this creative process by participating in an interactive experiment during our Open House. Students will also be on hand to answer your questions. It's your turn!

NTS 50TH ANNIVERSARY MURAL
On the Laurier Street exterior wall of the School, Richard Morin (Scénographie, 1988) and muralists recruited by the organization MU are presently hard at work painting a spectacular 1,200-sq.-ft. rendering of an image created by Richard Morin in tribute to the School's 50th anniversary. These artists will be available to answer your questions about this complex undertaking, which necessitated the construction of a self-supporting, custom-made steel structure in order to respect the building's architectural integrity.

NODUS
"Nodus" is the Latin root of the word "node". In social networking, the individuals or organizations making up a social network are called "nodes". The students enrolled in the NTS Playwriting program, guided by their director and playwright Brian Drader, have been investigating social networking from different viewpoints. These original works will be presented throughout the day. Be the first to hear them!
CANADIAN THEATRE HISTORY LAB
The 1st-year Acting students are currently exploring the altering landscape of Canadian theatre. The stories that are now being told on our stages often emanate from playwrights, actors and directors who increasingly come from culturally and socially diverse backgrounds. This shift is not happening without a certain struggle. Come share in the culmination of a week of discussion and debate with our young Acting students on what makes up Canadian theatre today.
MORE ACTIVITIES
The School has planned many exciting theatrical activities for you! Here are a few more:

- Come try your hand at painting alongside the 1st-year Set and Costume Design students;
- Find out how costumes are created as demonstrated by 2nd-year Set and Costume Design students;
- Sit in on a Mind & Body class led by dancer-choreographer Tedi Tafel (our photo);
- Explore the role of the Greek chorus and its various incarnations in theatre with the 2nd-year Acting and Directing students;
- Listen to the 2nd-year Acting students as they regale you with choral singing, and more!

Don't be shy; stop and chat with students, teachers, program directors, and staff!
HAVE LUNCH OR COFFEE AT THE SCHOOL'S
CAFE-RESTAURANT!

Open all day, Café Papilles-bonheur will offer a selection of sandwiches, soups, a table d'hôte menu, coffee, and juice. An ideal spot to refresh and recharge your batteries as you journey through the School.
