EN FRANÇAIS COMME EN ANGLAIS, IT'S EASY TO CRITICIZE
VIDEO OF THE WORK IN PROGRESS

Video images were taken during the first days of rehearsal and as the weeks progressed, students began sharing their thoughts on their bilingual production in a porta potty, no less. And yes, the portable toilet is part of the actual performance to be presented starting October 25!

EN FRANÇAIS COMME EN ANGLAIS,
IT'S EASY TO CRITICIZE

OCTOBER 25 TO 30, MONUMENT-NATIONAL

The National Theatre School will present its first-ever bilingual co-creation, En français comme en anglais, it's easy to criticize, a newly-devised theatre event, freely adapted from the work of Jacob Wren, from October 25 to 30, 2011, at the Ludger-Duvernay Theatre of the Monument-National. Two theatrical traditions are being brought together on the same stage, under the guidance of co-directors Chris Abraham (Directing, 1996) and Christian Lapointe (Mise en scène, 2005).

"To round off this year's 50th anniversary festivities, the artistic directors Denise Guilbault and Sherry Bie, and I wanted to offer our graduates a unique artistic platform that openly favoured the creative process over the final performance." explains Simon Brault.

HOMECOMING
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28 TO SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2011

It will be quite the Homecoming weekend with well over 300 alumni signed up for various events. The response has been overwhelming from all 5 generations of the School with pretty much a 50-50 mix of English and French grads. We have August Schellenberg (Acting, 19663) and Louise Forestier (Interprétation, 1964) from the first years, Valerie Planche (Acting, 1987) and Dominique Lemieux (Scénographie, 1986) from the mid-years right up to the 00s with Carmen Grant (Acting, 2002) and Stéphane Hort (Production, 2009).

The weekend starts on Friday with a Welcome Cocktail and Buffet at the School's theatre, the Monument-National, catered by the fabulous team at Agneus Dei; wines are offered by Barefoot Wines. Saturday proposes tours of the Monument-National, conversations on new theatre technologies, co-creation (bilingual production), Canadian theatre, and an encounter with the fascinating and inimitable Marcel Sabourin.

ALLAN HAWCO AND CLAUDE POISSANT
2011 GASCON-THOMAS RECIPIENTS

The School is proud to announce that this year's Gascon-Thomas Award will be distinguished upon actor, artistic director, writer and executive producer Allan Hawco (Acting, 2000) and director, playwright, actor and dramaturge Claude Poissant. The two will receive their awards on Friday, October 28, 2011, during the NTS's first-ever Homecoming.

Created in 1990 by the NTS Board of Governors, the Gascon-Thomas Award is named after two of the School's founders, Jean Gascon and Powys Thomas. The Award recognizes exceptional achievement. Each year, two artists (one Anglophone and one Francophone) are singled out and honoured, not only for the way they've shaped the world of theatre and the live and visual arts, but also for their status as role models to NTS students.
MONUMENT-NATIONAL
A NEW WEBSITE

The Monument-National launched its new website on October 11. Designed in collaboration with Deux Huit Huit, this new site has a very dynamic look, a wealth of visuals and intuitive navigation. It will certainly be of great value to producers, organisations who rent the Monument-National's theatres and for the School's public performances. Take a tour of the new site at http://www.monumentnational.com/en/.
