NTS ALUMNI NOISEMAKERS
Three out of the
2011 TOP 10 THEATRE ARTISTS
cited by Toronto's NOW magazine are NTS graduates:
Gregory Prest (Acting, 2004) for his work in Fall 2011 with Soulpepper,
Diane D'Aquila (Acting, 1972) for her portrayals of Solange in Genet's The Maids
and Harelip in Tremblay's Saint Carmen of The Main, and Amy Rutherford (Acting, 2000)

in the number 6 position. It was directed by Brendan Healy (Directing, 2005), sets by
Julie Fox (Set and Costume Design, 1994) and featured Diane D'Aquila

Special mention was given to the NTS student production of
KADMOS
in Montreal's Gazette and The Globe and Mail called
Bliss,
written by Olivier Choinière (Écriture dramatique,1996) and
directed by Steven McCarthy (our photo), 2 time graduate of the NTS (Acting and Directing),
the most under the radar show. Lighting design is by NTS Production Program Director

PERSONALIZED TRAINING
The National Theatre School provides an exceptional environment for learning theatre and the creation arts.
The training you will receive – most of it individualized – is led by well-respected theatre
professionals who are active in the field, like Halifax-based Lighting Designer
Leigh Ann Vardy
(our photo – Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Soulpepper, Neptune Theatre), who regularly leads lighting
design master classes at the NTS. The
Monument-National,
a historical building owned by the School in the heart of the
Quartier des Spectacles,
provides an ideal venue for
public performances
put on by graduating students. The NTS has shaped some of the greatest talent in this country,
and their reach is wide, touching the fields of dance, theatre, opera, film, television, radio,
digital arts, literature, and the circus.

AS AN NTS STUDENT, YOU WILL
- Hone your skills in one of the few arts schools worldwide offering training in all the theatre arts,
under one roof, and in both official languages;
- Regularly participate in projects involving students from other NTS programs. These collaborative projects
provide our graduates with an excellent understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the profession,
which is one of the reasons why they transition so quickly into the world of professional theatre;
- Receive training adapted to your needs and potential: Our 160 or so students benefit from daily interaction
with our faculty, made up of approximately 200 active theatre professionals who are shaping today's theatre
scene; by the time you finish your studies, you will have built an extensive network of contacts!
- Develop your skills through ongoing, personalized evaluation conducted with the collaboration of your
teachers and program directors. The NTS does not grade students or issue diplomas.
- Have access to advanced technological resources (expertise, partnerships, sophisticated equipment, and more),
thanks to the
Creation and Technology Fund,
among others;
En français comme en anglais, it's easy to criticize
(our photo), presented in 2011, received support from this fund;
- Benefit from initiatives that actively support your professional integration, such as
Theatre Engaging Communities (TEC),
a program which is available to NTS students and graduates alike.
